The January transfer market proves to be a time of intense speculation and potential big-money transfers. A number of high-profile footballers find themselves linked with transfers away from their present teams. We examine some of the key names that might be changing clubs in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Despite Ghana's failure to reach the Africa Cup of Nations, which has kept the forward in contention, indications are a major transfer is imminent. The Bournemouth attacker possesses a contract with a sizeable release clause active for a short period at the start of the month. Latest developments suggest the Premier League champions are now the frontrunners for his services. Other suitors like Tottenham and Chelsea are said to have moved on to other options, potentially opening the door for clubs such as Liverpool or Manchester United to attempt a late move.

Marc Guéhi

The English centre-back has impress for Crystal Palace despite a summer move to Anfield collapsing. With his contract set to expire in the summer, January is the London club's last opportunity to secure a transfer fee for their skipper. A host of top sides, including Manchester City and multiple continental powerhouses including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly be interested. Yet, a January exit is considered difficult, especially given the coach's reliance on the defender.

B. Johnson

This Wales forward has had starting minutes hard to come by at Spurs this campaign. Although being the side's leading goalscorer last season, Johnson has started only a handful of Premier League matches. It is understood the London club would be willing to consider a transfer for the correct price, believed to be in the region of forty million pounds. The Cherries are currently leading the chase, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also showing an inquiry.

The Portugal playmaker might be set for a comeback to the English top flight following a period in Saudi Arabia. Now only twenty-eight, and with his agreement ending in the summer of 2026, he is a possible bargain. Clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool are connected to the player. Additionally, there have been suggestions from Spain that he is prepared to accept a reduced salary for a move to the Spanish giants.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This veteran German goalkeeper is now as third-choice at Barcelona under new manager Hansi Flick. After lost his place and undergone surgery, a January exit seems highly probable. Aston Villa were initially mentioned as a possible suitor, but that option currently seems unlikely. Instead, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly showing interest in the keeper.

This prolific English centre-forward has kept scoring regularly in Saudi Arabia. Coming back to the Premier League might boost his dwindling hopes of being in the England World Cup. K. Smit

The much-admired Netherlands teenage midfielder has earned parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his playing style. After starring at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has become a regular in the AZ side. The 19-year-old is heavily tipped to complete a major move in January. Newcastle are believed to be frontrunners, but could face stiff rivalry from Real Madrid for a signing priced at approximately £22 million.
