Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has beaten Oscar Piastri at all of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the points lead from his teammate by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, lying 36 points Norris, ended up in 17th position as his team ran a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he rotated at Turn Four during the early running.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before sliding over the escape zone, and was blessed to avoid just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the conclusion of the session, turning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn leading to the final corner on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in P19, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the remaining drivers, with the German's car P3, 0.619secs slower than the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
