Just as Storm Claudia hit the north-west the prior day, City blew United away at the Etihad Stadium. It was a convincing three goal win for their manager's side owing to goals from Knaak, Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a result that clearly signaled their leadership claims as they strengthened their position at the league summit.

Consecutive Setbacks for United

This scoreline marked successive WSL losses for Skinner's side for the initial occasion since last May, placing them a significant margin off the top team with their title hopes in serious doubt.

Manchester United's capacity to manage league and European football with a small team has been a hotly discussed issue since they qualified for the Champions League. Goals Galore

The home side, in contrast, could have increased their lead when a delightful Vivianne Miedema long ball sent Bunny Shaw away only for her to fluff her lines but it mattered little to the winning team. Having failed to overcome any team who placed above them last season, the manager's side now have victories against the Gunners and United to position them in a commanding situation after nine games.
