An extensive 60-day voyage through the Land Down Under is being halted following the tragic passing of an senior woman who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a remote tropical isle.

The elderly woman had been trekking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the group for a rest. The ship sailed away leaving her and came back later that day after the personnel realised the lady was missing.

An extensive rescue mission located her body the following day.

Authorities are looking into the tragedy, in coordination with law enforcement and the official investigator.

The CEO of the cruise operator stated that guests and staff on the Coral Adventurer were told that the remainder of the journey had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and previous technical problems".

Via official communication, he added that travelers would be given a total repayment, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the homeward trips of the travelers via specially arranged planes".

Authorities also released an updated communication, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Commander" prohibiting any additional guests from getting on the liner.

The official said that they would visit the liner in Cairns upon its coming back.
